Description
A zoomable LED torch is a hand-held flashlight with an aluminium body and a sliding head that changes the beam from a wide flood to a narrow, long-reaching spot. It is the basic emergency light for a home in Bangladesh: something that works the moment the power goes, that you can carry down a dark stairwell, and that fits in a drawer, a bag or a glove box.
Why keep a dedicated torch when the phone has a light?
- A phone light is weak, has no reach and drains the battery you need for calling.
- A torch throws a focused beam far enough to see down a road, across a flooded yard or up a stairwell.
- It can be dropped, used in rain and handed to someone else.
How does the zoom work?
Push the head forward for a tight spot beam that reaches far; pull it back for a wide, even flood that lights a whole room or a work area. The lens moves in front of a single high-power LED, so there is no bulb to burn out.
What powers it?
Torches of this type run on either a single rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion cell or three AAA batteries in a carrier that slides into the same tube.
| Option | Good for |
|---|---|
| Torch with AAA battery carrier | Occasional use; AAA batteries are sold everywhere |
| Torch with 18650 rechargeable cell and charger | Frequent use — brighter for longer and cheaper to run |
Features
- Machined aluminium body with knurled grip, black anodised finish
- Sliding zoom head, spot to flood
- Push-button switch on the tail cap, cycling through high, low and flashing modes
- Wrist strap
Where should you keep it?
Keep one beside the bed, one near the main door or meter board, and one in the car. Check it once a month, and take ordinary batteries out if the torch will sit unused for a long time — leaking cells ruin the contacts.
Applications
- Load-shedding and power cuts at home
- Cyclone, flood and earthquake emergency kits
- Car, motorcycle and CNG glove boxes
- Security guards and night caretakers
- Inspecting meter boards, pumps and roof tanks
- Travel, camping and village visits
Recommended usage
Keep the torch in a fixed, known place — beside the bed or near the main door — with batteries fitted and tested monthly. Use the wide flood setting indoors and the narrow spot for distance. Recharge lithium cells after use rather than leaving them flat.
Safety instructions
Do not shine the beam into anyone's eyes or at drivers. Charge 18650 lithium cells only in a charger made for them, never leave them charging unattended overnight, and do not use cells with a torn wrapper. This torch is not an explosion-protected type: do not use it where there is a gas leak or flammable vapour.
Frequently asked questions
Which torch light is best for load-shedding at home?
An LED torch with a zoom head is a good choice, because the wide setting lights a room and the narrow setting reaches down a stairwell or street. Choose the rechargeable 18650 version if you use it most evenings, or the AAA version if it mostly waits in a drawer.
Is a rechargeable torch better than a battery torch?
A rechargeable torch is better for regular use, since a lithium cell gives more light for longer and costs almost nothing to recharge. A torch on AAA batteries is better as a stand-by, because fresh batteries hold their charge for years and can be bought anywhere.
What is a zoom torch light?
A zoom torch has a head that slides forward and back to change the beam. Forward gives a tight spot for distance, back gives a broad flood for close work, so one torch does both jobs.
Can this torch be used in the rain?
Yes, it can be used in rain, as the aluminium body and sealed tail cap resist splashes. It is not a diving light, so do not hold it under water, and dry it before opening the battery tube.
