Description

A PVC rain jacket is a fully waterproof work jacket made of polyester fabric coated with PVC, the same construction as the classic yellow fisherman's oilskin. Unlike thin nylon raincoats, the coating itself is the barrier and the seams are welded, so water does not soak through in long, heavy monsoon rain. This jacket is bright yellow, hip-length, with an attached hood, a front zip behind a press-stud storm flap, two lower pockets with flaps, and knitted inner cuffs that stop water running up the sleeves.

Who is it for?

  • Construction and road workers who must keep working in the rain
  • Security guards, gatemen and traffic staff
  • Fishermen, boat crews, ghat and port workers
  • Delivery riders and motorcyclists
  • Farm, fishery and cold-storage workers who get wet and splashed
  • Wash-down and cleaning crews in factories and markets

PVC, PU or nylon — which rainwear is right?

Material Waterproofing Durability Comfort Best for
PVC-coated polyester (this jacket) Excellent, does not wet through Tough, resists mud, oil and abrasion Heavier, does not breathe Hard outdoor work, fishing, wash-down
PU-coated polyester Very good Good Lighter and more flexible General site and rider use
Thin nylon or polythene Fair, seams may leak Low Very light Occasional or emergency use

Which size should you choose?

Rainwear goes over your other clothes, so pick it roomy.

Size Chest of wearer (approx.)
M 91–99 cm
L 99–107 cm
XL 107–117 cm
XXL 117–127 cm

Does the yellow colour make it a safety garment?

Bright yellow is far easier to see in rain and poor light than dark rainwear, which is why it is the usual colour for work rain jackets. However, a plain yellow jacket without reflective tape is not high-visibility clothing in the sense of EN ISO 20471. Near traffic or moving plant, wear a reflective vest over it.

Care

Rinse off mud, salt water and fish slime with clean water and hang the jacket to dry in the shade, fully opened. Do not fold it away wet, do not iron it, and keep it away from heaters, engine exhausts and solvents, which harden and crack PVC.

Applications

  • Construction, road and utility work in the monsoon
  • Security, gate and traffic duty
  • Fishing boats, ghats, ports and fish markets
  • Delivery riders and motorcyclists
  • Farms, fisheries and cold storages
  • Factory wash-down and cleaning work

Recommended usage

Wear over normal work clothes in a size roomy enough to move freely. Close the zip and the storm flap, pull the hood up, and keep the inner cuffs snug at the wrists. Rinse and hang to dry fully opened after use.

Safety instructions

Not flame resistant and not a chemical suit — PVC softens and melts near heat, sparks and hot surfaces. A plain yellow jacket is not high-visibility clothing: add a reflective vest near traffic. PVC does not breathe, so take breaks in hot, humid weather to avoid overheating. The hood reduces side vision and hearing; take extra care around vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

Is a PVC raincoat fully waterproof?

Yes, PVC-coated fabric is completely waterproof, because the PVC layer is a solid film that water cannot pass through. With welded seams and a storm flap over the zip, a PVC jacket stays dry inside even in hours of heavy rain, which thin nylon raincoats usually do not.

Does this rain jacket come with trousers?

No, this listing is for the hooded jacket only. For full protection on a motorcycle, a boat or a wash-down job, wear it with separate waterproof trousers and gumboots.

Is a PVC rain jacket comfortable in hot weather?

It is waterproof but not breathable, so it feels warm in hot, humid weather. Choose a loose size so air can move underneath, open the front when the rain eases, and take short breaks during heavy physical work.

How do you stop a PVC raincoat from cracking?

Dry it in the shade and store it hanging or loosely rolled, away from heat and sunlight. PVC cracks when it is left folded and damp, dried in strong sun, or exposed to engine heat, oil and solvents for long periods.
