Description
A disposable coverall is a lightweight one-piece suit with a hood that is worn over normal clothes to keep dust, dirt, paint and light liquid splashes off the body, and is thrown away when it is contaminated. It is made of non-woven polypropylene fabric, closes with a front zip, and has elastic at the wrists, ankles and around the face. The photograph shows the white and the blue versions being worn outdoors together with respirators and gloves, which are sold separately.
What is it used for?
- Spray painting, powder coating and fibreglass work
- Insulation and dusty demolition work — together with the correct respirator
- Cleaning tanks, drains, poultry sheds and farms
- Food, pharmaceutical and electronics production where the product must be protected from the worker
- Visitors to clean rooms, farms and factories
Which type of disposable coverall do you need?
Disposable suits look alike but protect very differently. Chemical protective clothing is classed by "Type" under European standards:
| Type | Protects against | Typical fabric |
|---|---|---|
| Type 5 | Airborne solid particles (dust) | SMS or microporous laminate |
| Type 6 | Light spray and small splashes of low-hazard liquids | SMS or microporous laminate |
| Type 4 | Liquid spray | Laminated fabric with taped seams |
| Type 3 | Liquid jets under pressure | Coated fabric with sealed seams |
A basic polypropylene coverall like this one is a dirt-and-dust barrier. For hazardous chemicals, asbestos or infection control, check the Type number and standard printed on the suit label and packaging before you buy; we make no Type claim for this economy suit.
Which size should you choose?
Choose one size larger than your normal clothing so you can bend, reach and squat without splitting the seams.
| Size | Approximate height |
|---|---|
| L | 164–176 cm |
| XL | 170–182 cm |
| XXL | 176–188 cm |
How do you take it off safely?
The outside of a used suit is contaminated. Unzip, peel the hood back, and roll the suit down and outwards off the shoulders, arms and legs so the dirty side is folded inside. Remove gloves last, wash your hands, and put the suit in a waste bag — do not shake it or take it home.
Applications
- Spray painting, powder coating and fibreglass work
- Dusty demolition, insulation and cement handling
- Tank, drain, poultry shed and farm cleaning
- Food, pharmaceutical and electronics production areas
- Visitors to clean rooms and biosecure farms
Recommended usage
Wear over light clothing, one size larger than normal. Zip fully, pull the hood round the face and tape the cuffs to gloves and the ankles to boots where dust or spray is heavy. Use once and dispose of as contaminated waste.
Safety instructions
Not flame resistant — keep away from sparks, welding, grinding and open flame, as the fabric melts and burns. Not a gas-tight or chemical-proof suit; do not use for corrosive or toxic liquids unless the label shows a suitable Type. Non-woven suits trap heat: take rest breaks and drink water in hot conditions. Do not reuse a contaminated suit.
Frequently asked questions
Is a disposable coverall the same as a PPE gown or hazmat suit?
No, they are different products. A disposable coverall is a light dust and splash barrier; a medical isolation gown is rated for fluid and infection control; and a hazmat suit is a sealed, chemical-resistant suit for dangerous substances. Check the Type and standard on the label to know which one you are buying.
Can a disposable coverall be washed and reused?
No, a disposable coverall is made for single use. Washing damages the non-woven fabric and seams, and a suit that has been used for dust, paint or chemicals carries that contamination on its surface. A clean, undamaged suit worn only briefly for visiting may be reused by the same person.
Does a disposable coverall protect against chemicals?
Only against light splashes of low-hazard liquids, and only if the suit is rated for it. A basic polypropylene coverall is not a barrier to acids, alkalis, solvents or pressurised spray; for those you need a coated or laminated chemical suit marked Type 3 or Type 4.
Which is better, a white or a blue disposable coverall?
The colour makes no difference to protection. White shows dirt and contamination clearly, so it is preferred for painting and clean rooms; blue is common in food factories and is often used to tell visitors or different teams apart.
