Description
PVC dotted gloves are ordinary cotton knitted work gloves with rows of small raised PVC dots printed on the palm and fingers. The dots grip smooth surfaces that plain cotton slides on, and they take the wear so the glove lasts longer. They are used for carrying cartons, handling tools, tiles and sheet materials, and for packing and assembly work.
Why choose dotted gloves over plain cotton?
| Plain cotton glove | PVC dotted glove | |
|---|---|---|
| Grip on cartons, tools and smooth surfaces | Fair | Good |
| Wear life of the palm | Shorter | Longer — the dots take the abrasion |
| Breathability | Very good | Very good — the knit stays open between dots |
| Cost | Lowest | Slightly higher |
Because the PVC is applied as separate dots rather than a full coating, the glove stays as cool and flexible as a plain cotton one.
What are they used for?
- Carrying cartons, crates, tiles, boards and furniture
- Warehouse picking, packing and courier work
- Holding hand tools and light assembly work
- Driving, cycle and rickshaw-van work
- Gardening and general household jobs
What are their limits?
The dots add grip, not protection. The glove still absorbs liquids, so it is not for chemicals, oils or wet work, and the grip falls off on oily surfaces — a latex- or nitrile-coated glove is better there. It does not resist sharp edges, and PVC softens with heat, so it is not for hot objects or welding. Like any knitted glove, it must not be worn near rotating machinery.
Size and pack
The gloves are seamless, stretch to fit most adult hands and are sold in one free size. In the photo the dots are on one side of the glove, which is worn as the palm. One dozen is 12 pairs.
The photo shows one pair: white knit with yellow dots and a yellow wrist edge.
Applications
- Carrying cartons, crates, tiles and boards
- Warehouse picking, packing and courier work
- Handling hand tools and light assembly
- Driving and delivery work
- Gardening and household jobs
Recommended usage
Wear with the dotted side on the palm for dry handling work where grip matters. Replace the pair when the dots have worn off or the knit has holes. For oily or wet materials, use a latex- or nitrile-coated glove instead.
Safety instructions
Do not wear near rotating machinery — knitted gloves can be caught and pull the hand in. Not for chemicals, oils, sharp blades, hot objects or welding; PVC dots soften and melt with heat. Remove a glove that has become soaked.
Frequently asked questions
What are the dots on work gloves for?
The PVC dots give grip and resist wear. They stop smooth items such as cartons, tools and tiles from slipping through cotton, and they take the abrasion so the palm of the glove lasts longer.
Are PVC dotted gloves waterproof?
No. Only the dots are PVC; the glove itself is knitted cotton and soaks up water, oil and chemicals. For wet work, choose a fully coated or rubber glove.
Which is better for lifting cartons — plain or dotted gloves?
Dotted gloves are better for lifting cartons, because the PVC dots grip smooth cardboard and shrink wrap that plain cotton slides on. Plain cotton is enough for rough materials such as bricks and sacks.
Can dotted gloves be used for hot work?
No. PVC softens and melts with heat and cotton can burn, so dotted gloves must not be used for welding, hot metal or cooking. Use leather welding gloves or heat-resistant gloves for those jobs.
