Description

Reusable corded ear plugs are pre-moulded soft plugs with three flexible flanges and a short stem, joined in pairs by a cord. You push them straight into the ear without rolling, and when you take them out the cord keeps them round your neck instead of on the floor. They are washable and can be used many times, which makes them popular where workers go in and out of noise all day.

Why choose corded plugs?

  • Hard to lose — the pair stays together and hangs from the neck during breaks.
  • Cleaner — you hold the stem, not the part that goes in the ear, so dirty hands matter less than with roll-down foam.
  • Food and pharma lines — a cord stops a loose plug from dropping into the product.
  • Lower running cost — one pair replaces many pairs of disposable plugs.

How do you fit them?

  1. Reach over your head with the opposite hand and pull the top of the ear up and back.
  2. Hold the stem and push the plug in with a slight twisting motion until the flanges seal the canal.
  3. Check the fit: with the noise on, cup your hands over your ears — if the sound does not change much, the plugs are sealing well.

To remove, twist gently to break the seal and pull out slowly by the stem — not by the cord.

Foam or reusable — a quick comparison

Disposable foam Reusable flanged (this product)
Insertion Roll, insert, hold Push in, no rolling
Noise reduction Usually highest when fitted deeply Usually a little lower
Life One use Many uses if kept clean
Cleaning Not washable Wash with mild soap and water

The photograph shows the corded plugs together with a pair of ordinary foam plugs for comparison; this listing is for the corded reusable type.

Cleaning and replacement

Wash the plugs in lukewarm water with mild soap, rinse and let them dry completely before putting them back in the ear. Replace them when the flanges become hard, torn or deformed, or when they no longer seal.

Applications

  • Garment, textile and knitting factories
  • Food, beverage and pharmaceutical production lines
  • Fabrication workshops and machine shops
  • Construction sites and generator areas
  • Supervisors and maintenance staff moving in and out of noisy zones

Recommended usage

Pull the ear up and back, hold the stem and push the plug in with a gentle twist until the flanges seal. Wash with mild soap and water after each shift, dry fully and store in a clean bag or case. Issue each pair to one person only.

Safety instructions

Do not share ear plugs between people. Remove slowly with a twisting motion — never pull sharply or by the cord. Do not use near rotating machinery where a hanging cord could be caught, unless the cord is kept inside clothing. Replace plugs that are torn, hard or deformed.

Frequently asked questions

How long can reusable ear plugs be used?

Reusable ear plugs typically last from a few weeks to a few months of daily use, depending on how well they are cleaned. Replace them as soon as the flanges harden, tear, change shape or stop sealing the ear.

How do you clean reusable ear plugs?

Wash them in lukewarm water with a little mild soap, rinse well and leave them to dry completely before use. Do not use alcohol, solvents or hot water, which can harden or damage the soft flanges.

What is the cord on ear plugs for?

The cord keeps the two plugs together so they can hang round the neck when not in use and are not lost or dropped. In food and pharmaceutical factories it also helps prevent a plug from falling into the product.

Are reusable ear plugs as good as foam ear plugs?

Well-fitted foam plugs usually reduce noise slightly more, but reusable flanged plugs are easier to fit correctly every time. In practice a plug that is worn properly all shift protects better than a higher-rated one that is fitted badly, so choose the type your workers will actually wear.
