Description

High ankle safety shoes are lace-up work boots with a steel cap built into the toe and a thick, grippy sole. They protect the feet from falling or rolling objects, from stubbing against steel and concrete, and from slipping on wet or oily floors, while the raised collar supports the ankle on rough ground. They are the standard footwear for construction, engineering, factory and warehouse work in Bangladesh.

What does a safety shoe protect against?

  • Crushing and impact — the steel toe cap shields the toes if a tool, block or pipe drops on the foot.
  • Slips — the cleated sole grips wet, dusty and oily floors better than ordinary shoes.
  • Twisted ankles and scrapes — the high, padded collar covers and steadies the ankle.
  • Oil and workshop dirt — the sole is made to resist mineral oils that soften ordinary rubber.

Which size should you choose?

Sizes follow the European scale, 39 to 45. Safety shoes do not stretch at the toe because of the steel cap, so leave about a finger-width of space in front of your longest toe and try them with the thick socks you work in. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one.

What should you check before buying?

Safety footwear for industrial use is normally marked to EN ISO 20345, where the toe cap is tested to a 200 joule impact. The code after it tells you the extras: SB is the basic toe-cap shoe, S1 adds an antistatic, energy-absorbing heel, and S1P or S3 add a puncture-resistant midsole for sites with nails and sharp scrap. Ask for the grade your site rules require.

Applications

  • Building, bridge and road construction
  • Steel, cement, ceramic and engineering factories
  • Warehouses, loading docks and container yards
  • Mechanical and electrical maintenance teams
  • Shipyards and heavy fabrication workshops

Recommended usage

Lace the boots fully so the collar holds the ankle, and wear them with thick cotton socks. Let them dry naturally after wet work and clean the leather regularly. Choose the size with a finger-width of room at the toe, because the steel cap does not stretch.

Safety instructions

Replace the shoes after a heavy impact on the toe cap, or when the sole is worn smooth, split or separating. A steel toe cap does not protect the rest of the foot. These shoes are not electrically insulating; do not rely on them for live electrical work. Do not dry them over direct heat.

Frequently asked questions

What size safety shoes should I order?

Order your normal European shoe size, and go one size up if you are between sizes or wear thick socks. The steel toe cap does not stretch, so there should be about a finger-width of space in front of your longest toe.

Are steel toe safety shoes heavy to wear all day?

They are heavier than ordinary shoes, typically 1.2 to 1.5 kg a pair, but a padded collar and a polyurethane sole make them comfortable for a full shift once broken in. Most people adjust within a week or two.

What is the difference between S1, S1P and S3 safety shoes?

S1 shoes have a toe cap, a closed heel, antistatic properties and an energy-absorbing heel; S1P adds a puncture-resistant midsole; S3 adds both the midsole and a water-resistant upper. These are grades of the EN ISO 20345 standard.

Can safety shoes be used for electrical work?

Ordinary steel toe safety shoes are not made to insulate against electric shock. For live electrical work, use footwear that is specifically marked as electrically insulating, together with the other protective equipment the job requires.

How long do safety shoes last?

With daily use on a site, a pair of safety shoes typically lasts six months to a year. Replace them sooner if the tread is worn flat, the sole is separating, the toe cap shows through or the shoe has taken a heavy impact.
